Special Exhibition
Koizumi Yakumo – Kwaidan and the view of a folklorist
April 11 (Sat.) to June 8 (Mon.), 2026
Overview of the exhibition
Koizumi Yakumo is a writer, especially famous for Kwaidan. Many of his works are based on Japanese ghost stories, folk beliefs and views on nature, indicating that he had the mind of a folklorist as well.
He had empathy with Japanese people’s belief in invisible things and respect for nature, which inspired him to write his books.
This exhibition sheds light on a number of Yakumo’s works to explore the splendor and richness of Japanese folklore that fascinated him.
